Early verdict: only a few in-depth reviews are out so far. We update this page as more reviews are published.

The verdict

This is an early verdict. Only one outlet, NotebookCheck, has tested the Xiaomi 18 Fold in depth, and FoneArena and Gizmochina mostly listed specs. On that evidence the phone has very good battery life, a bright display and a capable camera. It also has real weaknesses: screen flicker at low brightness, a broken Android Auto and no stated update commitment. It suits someone who wants a thin foldable with long endurance and is willing to wait for more reviews.

Best for: Buyers who want a thin foldable with long battery life and can wait for more independent testing.
Skip it if: You rely on Android Auto, are sensitive to screen flicker, or need a clear software update promise before buying.

What reviewers liked

  • NotebookCheck measured about 26 hours of runtime in its WLAN test, strong for a foldable.
  • The inner display reached 3,759 cd/m² in HDR mode, and the fold is barely visible.
  • Detailed daylight photos and a telephoto lens that holds up at 5x, per NotebookCheck.
  • Thin, with IP58 water resistance and a rounded-corner design that FoneArena found well-constructed in hands-on.

What they didn’t

  • Android Auto did not work in NotebookCheck’s testing.
  • Xiaomi has not disclosed a concrete update guarantee, according to NotebookCheck.
  • Noticeable flicker at minimum brightness at 120 Hz, which may bother sensitive users.
  • Measured thicker than Xiaomi’s figures, with creaking when twisted open and IP58 not fully dustproof.

In detail

Camera: 8.1/10

NotebookCheck is the only outlet that judged image quality. It found detailed daylight shots with vivid colors, though slightly oversaturated, and a telephoto lens with 3.5x optical zoom that stays detailed even at 5x. Low-light photos looked nice, but it noted detail loss in darker areas. Gizmochina listed hardware without testing it: a 200MP main camera with OIS and Leica optics, a 50MP telephoto with roughly 3x optical zoom, and 8K video at 24fps. It also listed 4K at 60fps with Dolby Vision. The outlets don’t disagree, but only one has tested the cameras.

Battery life: 9.2/10

NotebookCheck measured about 26 hours of runtime in its WLAN test, which points to strong endurance for a foldable. FoneArena and Gizmochina both reported a 6,000mAh battery capacity, but neither tested it or gave a verdict. FoneArena’s piece was written before release and described the capacity as expected. No outlet disagrees, though the result comes from one test by one outlet. Charging speed isn’t covered well enough in the reviews we read to score it.

Performance: 7.3/10

There is too little evidence here to give a firm view. No outlet we read ran benchmarks or reported how the phone feels in use. Gizmochina listed Xiaomi’s XRing O3 processor on a 3nm process, an Arm G2-Ultra NX MC16 GPU, up to 16GB of RAM and up to 1TB of UFS 4.1 storage. FoneArena also named the in-house chip and expected LPDDR6 RAM. These are specifications, not results, so real-world speed and heat handling remain untested in the reviews we read.

Display: 8.1/10

NotebookCheck gave the only real verdict. It measured 3,759 cd/m² in HDR mode and said the fold is barely visible. It also found noticeable flickering at the minimum brightness setting at 120 Hz, which it flagged as a problem for sensitive users. FoneArena listed a 5.4-inch cover screen and a 7.6-inch inner display. Gizmochina described the inner screen as a 7.58-inch LTPO AMOLED with a 120Hz refresh rate and Dolby Vision. Those two outlets gave sizes and specs but no assessment of quality.

Software: 5.6/10

The evidence is limited, and the one verdict is negative. NotebookCheck found that Android Auto did not work during testing. It also noted that Xiaomi has not disclosed a concrete update guarantee for this model. It did not report wider stability problems. Gizmochina only listed the software as Android 17 with HyperOS 4, without judging it. With a single tested report, it’s unclear whether the Android Auto failure is widespread or fixable. Check for a fix and an update policy before you buy.

Design & build: 7.5/10

Reviewers agree the Fold is thin and has IP58 water resistance. FoneArena’s hands-on was mildly positive: it liked the rounded corners and thin profile, and said the phone appears well-constructed, without durability testing. NotebookCheck’s measurements were less flattering. It found 5.5 mm open and 11 mm shut, against Xiaomi’s 5.03 mm and 10.68 mm. It put the folded thickness at up to 15.6 mm with the camera. It also heard creaking when the phone was twisted open and noted IP58 is not fully dustproof. Gizmochina only listed specs. NotebookCheck also found clear, natural call quality with some background noise. Satellite positioning failed indoors and was occasionally inaccurate outdoors in built-up areas.

How we put this together

We read the reviews and articles listed above and weigh each by how much it should count: in-depth, hands-on testing with measurements counts most; launch news and press-release rewrites count least; sponsored content is penalised. Category scores are our trust-weighted summary of what those sources found, set to the same 10-point scale reviewers use; the reviewers’ own scores, where published, are listed above. This page was compiled with AI assistance and checked against the source notes. All findings belong to the outlets credited above; follow the links to read their full reviews. How we score.
