Reviewers’ own scores: Android Police 7/10

The verdict

The evidence is thin and should be read as an early verdict. Android Police, the only outlet to test the phone in depth, gave it 7/10, praising smooth gaming and a solid build but criticising the camera and display. Other outlets mostly list specs, and those specs and prices conflict, so check which version you are buying.

Best for: Mobile gamers who want smooth, cool performance and can live with an average camera and screen.
Skip it if: You want good low-light photos, a high-refresh display, or clear, consistent specs and pricing before you buy.

What reviewers liked

  • Android Police saw no frame drops or lag in extended gaming, with heat kept low by liquid cooling
  • Android Police praised the aluminium and glass build quality
  • Android Police measured 7-8 hours of screen-on time with heavier use
  • NotebookCheck measured touch latency of 34.7ms, better than the ROG Phone 2’s 49ms
  • FoneArena and Gizbot describe clean, bloatware-free Android 16 (limited evidence)

What they didn’t

  • Android Police found the camera over-processed, with an ineffective night mode and weak video stabilization
  • The display tops out at 430 nits and 60Hz, which Android Police and NotebookCheck see as a drawback for a gaming phone
  • DXOMARK’s audio testing placed it near the bottom of the phones it has reviewed
  • Specs, battery sizes, charging speeds and prices conflict across outlets, and the update promise is short

In detail

Camera: 6.0/10

Android Police was the only outlet to test the camera. It found good images in good light, but with heavy processing and muted colours. Night mode barely brightened shots and cost detail compared with the Pixel 4’s Night Sight. Video stabilization was weak, and low-light footage looked grainy. Android Police lists a 48MP main camera and a 12MP telephoto with 2x zoom. NotebookCheck mentions a 13MP telephoto and a 48MP main sensor, so the specs differ between outlets. No second outlet tested image quality, so there is no wider agreement.

Battery life: 8.5/10

Android Police measured 7-8 hours of screen-on time per charge under heavier use, which suggests a full heavy day with some charge left. That is the only tested result we found. The listed capacities conflict: NotebookCheck, Beebom and one FoneArena listing say 4000mAh, Smartprix Bytes says 5050mAh, and a newer FoneArena listing says 6000mAh. That points to different versions of the phone. None of the outlets say which capacity Android Police tested, so treat the battery result as indicative.

Performance: 9.6/10

Performance is the phone’s strongest area. Android Police tested the Snapdragon 855+ with 8GB of RAM and saw no frame drops or lag during extended gaming, with liquid cooling keeping the phone from getting very hot. NotebookCheck and DXOMARK list the same chipset and cooling approach without testing them. NotebookCheck adds that the chip has a 15% GPU advantage over the standard Snapdragon 855. Some outlets list other chips for what looks like a different version, but nobody disputes Android Police’s results.

Display: 6.2/10

Outlets that judged the display call it adequate but unremarkable. Android Police called the 430-nit peak brightness average at best, criticised 60Hz for a gaming phone, and found auto-brightness unreliable in the dark. NotebookCheck and Beebom note the AMOLED panel’s good touch latency, measured at 34.7ms by NotebookCheck, but also its lack of a high refresh rate. FoneArena describes 120Hz as fluid, which conflicts with the other outlets, so the panel specs are not fully settled.

Software: 7.6/10

The evidence here is limited and mixed. FoneArena and Gizbot describe a clean, bloatware-free Android 16 with the Vayu AI assistant, but call the promise of one major OS upgrade and two years of security patches modest. Neither tested the software in depth. Android Police’s January 2020 complaints about JoyUI, including translation errors, misaligned icons and a harsh vibration motor, appear to concern an earlier phone. Other outlets list Android 9 Pie or Android 11, so the software depends on which version you get.

Charging: 7.3/10

No outlet judged charging in practice, and the listed speeds disagree. NotebookCheck gives 27W fast charging, Smartprix Bytes says 66W, and FoneArena and Gizbot both say 18W wired charging with a supplied adapter. These likely describe different versions of the phone. With no tested charging times, we can’t say how quickly it refills. Check the exact specs of the model you are considering.

Design & build: 8.4/10

Android Police called the build fantastic, with an aluminium frame, a glass back insert and tidy assembly. Its caveats were the unconventional RGB lighting, a 6.4-inch size it found somewhat unwieldy, and a slow in-display fingerprint sensor that often needs retries. DXOMARK lists stereo front speakers and no 3.5mm headphone jack. In January 2020, its audio testing found thin sound with a lack of bass, weak playback volume and poor recording quality, though gaming mode sounded best. Dimension and weight figures vary between outlets.

Value: 7.3/10

There is too little consistent evidence to judge value. No outlet gave a verdict, and the prices reflect different configurations and markets. NotebookCheck gave about US$435 for 128GB and about US$580 for 256GB. FoneArena gave about US$435 and US$508 for the same storage sizes. Beebom listed 2999 yuan in China for 12GB RAM and 128GB. Smartprix Bytes gave ₹52,990 in India, while Gizbot listed Rs. 16,699 in India for 6GB RAM and 128GB. Compare current prices for your exact version.

How we put this together

We read the reviews and articles listed above and weigh each by how much it should count: in-depth, hands-on testing with measurements counts most; launch news and press-release rewrites count least; sponsored content is penalised. Category scores are our trust-weighted summary of what those sources found, set to the same 10-point scale reviewers use; the reviewers’ own scores, where published, are listed above. This page was compiled with AI assistance and checked against the source notes. All findings belong to the outlets credited above; follow the links to read their full reviews. How we score.
